Where
Do My Files Go?
When you first log into your hosting account using FTP or
Telnet you will see the following directories and files:
.files
Files
that begin with a "." are required for proper
functionality of your
account and should not be modified or deleted.
cgi-bin
Custom
cgi scripts should be placed in this directory.
Note: although this directory is located at the same level
as your "htdocs" directory
it is accessible through the web as: http://www.your_site.com/cgi-bin/
logs
Your access_log and error_log files reside in this
directory in standard NCSA format.
These files are rotated on a monthly basis using access_log.prv
and error_log.prv.
Old logs are removed every month.
If you choose to download these files using FTP, make sure
to use ASCII mode.
htdocs
All html and images assessible through the web
should be placed in this directory.
Your initial loading file should be named index.htm
or index.html (Make sure to use all lower case)
Please note that FrontPage users will find files and directories
that start
with "." and "_" plus an images directory
which are all required by FrontPage and should not be removed.
priv
This directory is at the same level as your htdocs
directory, and is accessed at http://www.your_site.com/priv/
Files ftp'd to this directory will require a user name and
password to gain web access.
Use your Web Site Manager to add, modify, and delete users.
